            <title>Music Is Your Business Podcast #10</title>
            <description>Music Is Your Business Podcast #10: Part 2 of 2 of an interview Chris Knab had with Independent Producer/Engineer Steve Fisk. Steve recorded such seminal northwest rock acts as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees and literally dozens of other indie artists.
&lt;br&gt;
Part 2 of the interview with Steve Fisk and Chris Knab starts out with some controversial thoughts on what is wrong with music today. They also discuss the currently popular theory called “The Long Tail” and how it relates to all independent artists and bands. Also discussed is the eternal question of which is better: to work with a major label or an independent label? As the interview continues Steve has several comments on the issue of copyright infringement and warns listeners to be careful what material you may wish to “appropriate” for their recordings. Steve also talks about a film project he is working on about Kurt Cobain, for which he wrote the soundtrack.</description>

northwest rock acts as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees and
literally dozens of other indie artists.

            <itunes:summary>Music Is Your Business Podcast #7: (Part 1 of 2) Chris interviews the mysterious, yet very articulate Moses Avalon. I say 'mysterious' because he chooses to write about the &quot;inside&quot; workings of the music business without revealing his true identity. But we do know quite a bit about Moses... He is currently a top selling author of music business books and education tools in the US music industry. He is also an artists’ rights activist. With the release of his first book, Confessions of a Record Producer: How To Survive the Scams and Shams of the Music Business in 1998,and currently in its third printing, it is part of the music business curriculums in over 20 colleges (UCLA, Loyola Law School and NYU.) Mr. Avalon released a follow up book, Secrets of a Negotiating a Record Contract: The Musician's Guide to Understanding and Avoiding Sneaky Lawyer Tricks. in which he unveils some of the more sinister aspects of recording contracts. Mr. Avalon was the first non-attorney to lecture the ins and outs of recording contracts at the Chicago Bar, and both the Los Angeles and Florida Continuing Legal Education (CLE) groups. He has been a featured guest in over 50 national radio interviews and his newsletter, Moses Supposes, features informed editorials on the inner workings of the music business,and reaches over 3500 subscribers, and, through syndication, over 50,000 readers. This interview is full of great insights, and lively exchanges. Check it out. After listening to this podcast, check out his website at www.mosesavalon.com. And be sure to sign up for his very useful newsletter!&quot;</itunes:summary>
